Pregnancy is a beautiful time when a mother can connect and bond with the baby. The seed of Consciousness enters as soon as the sperm and egg fuse together. Thereafter, consciousness captures all the emotions and feelings of the mother. While there is an amniotic (fluid) barrier that protects the baby from severe traumas and shocks, any Stress/positive experiences experienced by the mother is imprinted in the DNA of the baby. These memories get stored in the baby’s brain and eventually shape the development and behavior of the baby, going ahead in life. Since the baby is in theta brain wave- the emotions and beliefs are captured at a deep subconscious level.

It is for this reason that it is recommended that the mother meditates, to ensure that she is in a relaxed and calm state of mind. This is also why Doctors and therapists recommend that mothers keep themselves happy. The emotions that the mother experiences, creates the emotional foundation for the baby.

Talking to the baby during pregnancy can give him/her a sense of security and comfort and can ease any stress while in the womb. As the brain starts developing at this stage, any stress experienced by the embryo will manifest into physical implications at a later stage in the babies’ development. Issues with speech, language and disorders such as ADHD and ADD are a result of a stressful pregnancy. There is scientific evidence to show the same.

The most beneficial practice for the mother to do at this time is to close her eyes, be present in the moment and connect with the baby, heart to heart. The mother should give loving messages to the baby and truly enjoy the experience of oneness. This will ensure a happy healthy baby.

Our brain is neuroplastic, which means it has the ability to restructure and re-program itself. And changes happen continuously throughout an individual’s life. Researchers have found out that meditation can actually change the structure of your brain if done for minimum 3 months continuously.

The pre-frontal cortex is responsible for working memory and executive decision-making. Our cortex shrinks as we get older. This is the primary reason why it becomes hard to remember things or to do things as we get older.

The below image depicts how meditation can actually slow aging. As per the below findings, it was seen that the 50-year-old meditators had the same amount of cortex as the 25-year-olds, suggesting that meditation practice can actually slow down or prevent age-related decline in critical structure.

Brain Meditation

The next case study illustrates people who have never meditated and observed through a scanner. They were put through an eight-week stress reduction program and were told to meditate every day for 30-40 minutes.

This image indicates that the amygdala, a part of the limbic system in the brain which is responsible for fight and flight (emotions, instincts, survival, and memory), gets retrained to balance emotions and anxiety and take less stress, which also helps to prevent depression.

It was found that Meditation also helps to develop empathy, compassion and brings resilience under stress. The more the stress reduced, the smaller the amygdala became.

Change in Memory

During the study, the environment of the human had not changed. There was stress at work, long hours of working and less sleep but the study reports less stress. This shows the amygdala is not responding to the stressful environment, but it depicts people’s reaction and relationship due to change in environment.
Meditation also lowers the brain frequency to minimum theta or delta state which results in more calmness, anger reduction, higher productivity, reduced stress and balance of emotions which helps people to have a better relationship. It makes the person happier and brings better results in school, office, university.

Experts believe that the stress of modern life, coupled with the prevalence of chronic conditions, have contributed to a rise in the cases of chronic stress and depression in the UAE.

The types of drug addiction have also become more and more complicated, with new types of drug surfacing. As always, the problems often begin among the youth aged 16 to 25 years. This has largely been driven by relationship conflicts, social pressures and the fast pace of life in the region. In day-to-day life, we are living in stress and even our breathing has become sub-optimal, a clear physiological sign of stress.

So let us understand what exactly is stress. There are 2 parts of the Autonomous Nervous System: SYMPATHETIC AND PARASYMPATHETIC NERVOUS SYSTEM. There’s always an arm-wrestling match between the two. The sympathetic nervous system is vigilant and wants to accelerate your heart rate, always looking for emergencies to keep you safe. The parasympathetic system is exactly the opposite, it wants to calm you down and decrease your pulse rate. It has all the energy to activate your immune system and detoxify your body.

Our Unconscious Mind is 88-90% of our brain which stores all the beliefs, traumas, experiences and memories that shape our thoughts and day to day life. The programs at an unconscious level for anxiety/stress are overwhelming worry, fear of future, fear of the unknown, threat/danger, fear of being helpless and powerless. The job of the conscious mind is to create a defense mechanism of Stress so that one is not able to access and experience the issues stored in the unconscious mind and avoid the trauma altogether.

The real solution to resolve the stress is to heal the experiences and fears from the source of the issue through Karma Yoga Healing.
